In January, 2024, I decided I wanted to try and make 100 bonsai pots in the coming year. At the time I had only made around 15 of them and 100 seemed an impossible task. While it would only requiring me to make on average 2 a week, I soon realized that making the pot is only step 1 of several steps to a finished pot. Trimming, glazing, photographing and posting on Etsy and in this portfolio – all of it adds up to more work than making the actual pot. And as soon as I started I realized I had a very limited pallet of glazes with which I’d worked before. Rather than make a ton of test tiles I decided to use the pots as test tiles.
Some worked out; some did not. In the end, though, I learned a lot. Here are the results:
